The third meeting between faculty members and students from DePaul University in Chicago, USA, and their peers from the Australian Catholic University took place from 1st to 3rd November, focusing on their respective service-learning and social engagement practices.
Both universities have longstanding and vast experience in this field, so exchanging research and specific projects in recent years has been mutually enriching. Both institutions are active members of the worldwide Uniservitate network, which has contributed to further strengthening their ties and, on this occasion, include representatives from the Asia-Oceania regional hub, La Salle University (Manila), to the meeting.
Nieves Tapia, Director of CLAYSS, was invited to participate as keynote speaker, presenting the objectives of the Uniservitate programme, the concept of “service-learning”, and the importance that this pedagogical approach can have in the processes of combining the missions of teaching, research and social engagement, together with the spiritual dimension of the identity and mission of Catholic universities.
