On Friday, 24th November, the 5th Service-Learning Conference in Uruguay took place at the CAF Auditorium.<\/p>\n

CLAYSS Uruguay jointly organized the meeting with partner institutions such as ANEP (the National Administration of Public Education of Uruguay), the Education Directorate of MEC (the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay), INISA (the National Institute for Social Inclusion of Adolescents), the office of the Organization of Ibero-American States in Uruguay, UNICEF Uruguay, the “El chaj\u00e1\u201d Civil Association, ANONG (a National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations) and the Service-Learning Uruguayan Network.<\/p>\n

The opening and welcome speech were led by the highest authorities of the different organisations and institutions supporting and accompanying CLAYSS Uruguay in implementing its proposal throughout the country.<\/p>\n

Our director, Mar\u00eda Nieves Tapia, opened the event with the talk “Aprendizaje-servicio solidario: calidad educativa y desarrollo sostenible [Service-learning: quality education and sustainable development].” Zelmira May, specialist for LAC of the UNESCO Education Programme in Montevideo, accompanied her with comments.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, the panel of service-learning experiences told by its protagonists included the presentation of the experiences of the teacher training institute in Uruguay, Instituto de Formaci\u00f3n Docente de San Jos\u00e9; the educational centre in Montevideo, the Centro Educativo Providencia; the construction training institute, Instituto de Educaci\u00f3n en Construcci\u00f3n (IEC); and the National Institute for Social Inclusion of Adolescents, INISA. Olga de las Heras, General Director of Early and Primary Education – ANEP (the National Administration of Public Education of Uruguay), commented on the panel.<\/p>\n

During the seminar, the first Handbook for Service-Learning in contexts of incarceration was presented, which can be downloaded free of charge from our website: “Propuesta pedag\u00f3gica de aprendizaje y servicio solidario en contextos de privaci\u00f3n de libertad [The service-learning pedagogical approach in incarceration contexts]”<\/strong> (https:\/\/www.clayss.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Uruguay_Contexto_Encierro.pdf<\/a>) [in Spanish]. Ana Juanche, consultant in education and deprivation of liberty, and Gabriela Malacrida, both authors of the publication, presented the handbook. Rosario P\u00e9rez, Director of INISA and Juan Miguel Petit, Parliamentary Commissioner for the prison system in Uruguay, joined the presentation with their comments.<\/p>\n

After an intense morning, in the afternoon, the awards ceremony for the 11th edition of the Solidarity Education Contest in Uruguay took place.<\/p>\n
